But for very few exceptions, Models in the Raw has been a metropolitan journey. Big cities are models' working habitat and to us a major inspiration hub. But we can't deny having a soft spot for nature in general, and for the woods in particular. On our way to Italy we have been driving through the alps hundred times. Mostly on the run and therefore enjoying the view only from our seats. This time we followed a welcome invitation from SP-Models and stopped in Innsbruck, Austria. We feel blessed for the chance to meet the models in a more personal place and for the unexpected nature experience we got to enjoy. Here comes the first Tyrol feature!
Thanks for meeting us, Ricarda! And thank you for inviting us to your grandparents' house on the day after your 18th birthday, making this feature truly a very special one. What makes those woods so special to you?
The woods mean the world to me because they remind me of all the hours spent playing when I was little. I had so much space to play in and so many animals around me to spy on. It taught me to respect nature and its inhabitants.
You actually spent the first years of your life in Dubai, but told us you can't really remember so much of that time. But you have definite olfactory memories. How can you describe it? Is it like all of a sudden you detect a smell and are remembered of the past?
When we visit the places we have been to when I was younger, I actually do remember a lot of things: what I ate, why i felt the way I did and who was with me. Or I see a photo and remember how our house looked like and how I loved to swim in our pool. And when I smell a certain smell, it overwhelms me with feelings and flash backs.
And what is your favorite smell now?
My favorite smell in the world is the smell of the person I love, my boyfriend. We've been together for 2 years now and iI have never felt the way I do when I am around him.
Since you moved back to Austria, you have been growing up within all this hauntingly beautiful landscape and all sort of animals living right outside your door. How deep are you connected to your surroundings and to nature in general?
Nature means a lot to me, but animals in particular are my passion. That's why I don't eat them and I want to help where I can when I get older. My dream is to adopt a dog from a shelter and give it a loving home. My grandad taught me a lot of things about nature while we were taking his two dogs for a walk. He taught me not to throw litter into the woods and treat its inhabitants with respect.
If you were a flower or a tree, which one would you be?
This is a really hard question but I'll try... I think I would be a lemon tree, it provides humans with delicious fruits and every time someone would see me they would probably get my favorite song as a child stuck in their head.
Having just turned 18 and recently started to make your first steps as a model whilst still attending school, what lies ahead? Are you expecting any changes?
I am really happy with how my life is going right now. I hope school, modeling and playing volleyball will never get too stressful... I still want to have time for my friends, family and for myself. Yet, I want to model more because it's fun and maybe there is a chance I'll get to travel the world while modeling in the future.
What do you wish to keep?
I hope I will never forget where I come from. Austria is a place of peace and nature. I don't want to forget how important nature is to me and how much I love animals.
Your instagram quotes “jeder vernünftige Mensch ist unglücklich” (every wise person is unhappy). An invitation not to be wise or rather to embrace awareness nonetheless?
I really like this quote, it shows that when you are aware of what is going on in this cruel world you can never be truly happy. I see humans but no humanity.
